Coconut Oil

If you know me, you’ll know I LOVE coconut oil - it is my answer for solving around 90% of life’s problems. I have a jar in my kitchen and a jar in my bathroom as it’s great to cook with, and when it comes to natural beauty it is THE most useful product you can have.

Kitchen

Coconut oil is the most used oil in my kitchen, it is a healthier alternative to vegetable, olive oil etc. when cooking at high temperatures. I especially love mushrooms fried in coconut oil, it's just a winning combo.

Another way I like to use it is as a butter alternative on toast etc. Don't get me wrong, it's no freshly melted lurpak on toast, but when I need something to dunk it my soup it works perfectly. When I'm making smoothies coconut oil is a good way to up the healthy fat content;

I've also heard of people using it in hot drinks like tea or coffee to keep them fuller for longer, I've not tried it myself though - I'm not too sure how I feel about it!

Hair

A couple of years ago I didn’t even know a hair mask was a thing, but now I love my weekly hair mask as much as I do a face mask. To keep my scalp from getting irritable & flakey, I love love love a coconut oil hair mask... strangely I always thought I’d avoid coconut oil for my hair, as you always see it as a remedy to improve hair thickness & luckily my hair is plenty thick on its own! But, it has really helped to keep my scalp from getting too dry or sore from minor eczema issues.

I wait til my hair is ready for a wash, melt some coconut oil & apply to dry hair, massaging into the scalp as much as possible. I keep the mask in overnight, sleeping with a towel over my pillow to avoid leaving oil on my pillowcase.. then wash my hair as usual the next morning. Oddly, as I’ve left oil in my hair all night, my hair always feels cleanest & least full of any residue after one of these overnight masks.

Body

Coconut oil is the perfect natural, moisturiser. It's super hydrating, plus the vitamins in coconut oil can help to reduce the appearance of scars & can help increase the healthy cholesterol in the body. I LOVE a body oil over any lotions or butters and coconut oil is one of the easiest oils to apply as it's solid at room temperature & gradually melts when applied to the body.

Lips

Coconut oil can also make a gorgeous natural lip balm. I also love to use it as a base for matt lipsticks; I love the look of a matt lipstck but my lips dry out so easy! I apply some coconut oil a few minutes before the lipstick to really help lock in moisture.

Teeth

Oil pulling is a traditional Indian folk remedy for naturally (as the name suggests) pulling stains away from the teeth; which can help them appear whiter.

Place a generous teaspoon of oil into your mouth, it will quickly melt. Swill around like a mouthwash for roughly 10 minutes, then spit out.

After this, brush teeth as normal & to see best results repeat at least a couple of times a week.

According to some holistic health guides, this method is more effective than flossing & can help to make your mouth a much more clean & antiseptic environment.

Lashes

I love to apply a small amount of coconut oil to my upper lashes after completing my night time skin care routine. It helps to stimulate growth, leaving naturally thicker & longer lashes.

My natural lashes are long but fair & thin towards the end, so without makeup they are barely noticeable.. this little regime really helps them stand out & frame my eyes a little more when I’m going makeup free.

Coconut oil is perfect for use around the delicate eye area & causes me no irritation (& my eyes are super sensitive!)

-Handy Hint- use a clean mascara wand (obviously mascara free!) to help with even application.

I hope you've found some of these tips useful!
