Hello! This post is just a little intro into how I my love for natural products (mostly skincare) began.
It actually first started when I noticed how quickly my hair was getting greasy & I wasn't sure what to do about it... Googling is my absolute fave, if ever I need a simple question answering, I always turn to google! That was where I found that more natural products were one of the answers to 'how do I stop my hair getting greasy so quickly?'. I then started looking at all the hair products that are available without any toxic ingredients & harmful chemicals, which turned out to be a lot more difficult than I expected.. crazy as it sounds there is very little regulation when it comes to using the words 'natural' & 'organic' on beauty products.
Basically a beauty product can be labelled as natural or organic when it might only contain a very small amount of natural or organic ingredients, meaning the rest can potentially be the type of harsh, toxic chemicals I was trying to avoid. I still find it challenging to work out which products are truly as clean & organic as I'd like, but things like looking for Soil Association Logo on products can really help; this lets you know that it has been approved by the Soil Association as a legit organic product. There are a few apps like 'Think Dirty' & 'Good Guide' around which can help you choose products with better ingredients - I have found they are more American focused though & don't include that many brands available here in the UK.. I'd love to find an app that does as it is such a great idea!
When my skin was at its worst around December 2017 / January 2018 time it was these more natural, gentle products combined with the right healthy & balanced diet that made such an amazing difference. I'm definitely a believer that it's a combination of inner health & the products that you use that helps the most. It definitely took a really positive attitude & lots of patience.. as dramatic as it might sound I don't think you realise how much of an impact bad skin can have until you experience it for yourself!
A year on & I'm so glad to say that my skin has never got this bad since! I still have breakouts, especially when I'm eating / drinking all the wrong things, but coping with bad skin is so much easier when you know what's caused it & how to clear it up again.
Christmas 2018 saw my festive breakout be so different I could barely believe it; I took this pic on 23rd December after being a few weeks into all the festivities & over indulging, and although it’s not perfect it’s worlds away from how bad it was the previous year! I used to hate the thought of posting pictures where my skin was bad, even more so if there wasn’t a glowing ‘after’ picture to drop right next to it, but now I’m embracing the journey of looking after my skin through both health & beauty regimes. My skin may never be perfect, but I’m actually ok with that now.. in a weird way what’s a better fitting challenge for someone as skincare obsessed as I am than finding the best products to get my skin glowing (which usually involves trying a lot!)?!
So that's just a little introduction to my blog. I'm looking forward to sharing my experiences, tips I've learnt & other bits with you soon :)
